Today in this edition Of The Local History Of NASCAR I will highlight some of the local NASCAR drivers here from Chattanooga, TN and the surrounding area.

Grant Adcox


Grant Adcox was from Chattanooga, TN. His father was a car dealership owner called Herb Adcox Chevrolet which was the sponsor on his car for many years. Grant made 60 starts in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with 1 top 5, and 6 top 10's. Grant made 1 start in the Xfinity Series but made most of his fame in the ARCA Racing Series where he had 9 wins, 24 top 5's and 32 top 10's along with 4 poles!
Grant's life would be tragically taken away during a crash at Atlanta Motor Speedway during the Atlanta Journal 500 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Race.

Byron Defoor

Though never racing in any NASCAR's Top 3 series Byron Defoor from Ooltewah, TN has raced in numerous sports car races including four Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona International Speedway. Byron is one person I did not know was from my Home Town.

Harold Fryar


Though Harold Fryar only raced one NASCAR race in his career he is still a known guy from Chattanooga, TN. Harold raced dirt cars for years and even competed in one of the 2 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races here at Boyd's Speedway.

Jerry Smith

Jerry Smith raced in 3 NASCAR races in his career at 3 different tracks. Martinsville, Weaverville, and Boyds Speedway here in his hometown of Chattanooga, TN.
