Sprint Cup Regulars in the Xfinity - Where Things Haven't Changed

In this new series called Where Things Haven't Changed we will cover places where NASCAR has attempted to change an objective or problem and we will point out where things have not changed. If you have any ideas or places you want to hear us go over please enter a comment in the comment box to the left We love hearing fan feedback! The First One is concerning the Xfinity Series and the New Chase Format.
As many of you know NASCAR implemented the new Chase Format this season in all 3 series and currently 2 drivers in 2 of these series are locked into the Chase. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson and The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has Johnny Sauter and John Hunter Nemechek. The lone series without anyone locked is the Xfinity Series. The Brand that is supposed to be where Names Are Made is being overtaken by the Names that have already been made in some sort. When it comes to the new Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series Chase it's like we are making these two series their own instead of being with the Cup Series. So far in 2016 two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers have won the two races of the season leaving no driver locked into the chase yet while the other 2 series have 2 drivers each locked in. This is where I think NASCAR needs to review this system and there are three possible options for it and I will list them below. Some of these may not
be very popular to some and there are circumstances behind them and why you see these cup regulars in the NASCAR Xfinity Series which seems to be the only place we see cup regulars in. In two truck races there has not been one Cup Regular entered and I expect it to stay that way. Why can't the same happen in the Xfinity Series.
The number one option would be the most unpopular among Cup Regulars and maybe a few Xfinity Regulars. This would mean banning Cup Regulars period. This would be the only way to make the chase as competitive as we have seen it in the Cup Series and Truck Series. I highly don't ever see this happening because Cup drivers are what brings funding to the Xfinity Series. This option is one that commonly comes out of the fans and I can see it when attendance is low at these races.
The next option would be like a partnership deal with a cup regular. The cup regular brings the sponsorship with him to the team and they become the crew chief or driver coach. This could be where drivers like Ryan Sieg, Cody Ware, Tanner Berryhill, and ones like that could find the funding to be competitive each week. This would cause fans to want to see the Xfinity Series Regulars battle with each other on the track and still have an influence of the cup regulars. This could also be followed by a General Admission ticket deal. Lets say Bristol for example. General Admission for both the Xfinity and Truck Races for 25.00$. Lay that out
Bristol can hold 160,000 people, Let's say 100,000 people come to the Xfinity Series race for 25.00$. Mathematically we could see the track make 2,500,000$ and that is not even including Merchandise and Concessions sales. Tracks would make more money, NASCAR would look full again and within a few years we could see this system move to the Cup Series. I know it sounds insane but It could be the rebirth of NASCAR, At Least the Xfinity and Truck Series. This idea would help the money flow in NASCAR and would keep fans happy which is our #1 priority.
The third option would be that if you are in a lower funded car in the Cup Series then a team who runs drivers like Kyle Busch, Austin Dillon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Chase Elliott or someone like that would have to run a driver who does not have much of a ride in the Cup Series. For Example, Cole Whitt races for Premium Motorsports in the Cup Series. I think they should be allowed to run in cup but someone like JR Motorsports or Richard Childress Racing should put him in an Xfinity Car full time. This may be unpopular because of that wonderful funding but that's where I am saying the Cup Regular as a driver coach or crew chief would be best.
I know many of these things are far fetched but I really want to see change just as much as the everyday fan does. I want to see more competitive action on Friday's and Saturday's like we have seen in the Truck Series. The old saying that Cup Regulars sell seats is just dying off and I think fans who say that don't understand the issue or the fact that if drivers like Brad Keselowski or Kyle Busch come in and dominate fans may miss the hard working drivers with very little like Jeremy Clements, Ryan Sieg among many others. From the Grandstand - 12 Questions With Patrick Paxson

Today we interview NASCAR Fan Patrick Paxson. Me and him met through a Facebook group called Danica Racer. Patrick along with Sheryl Zahn are the founders of the group on Facebook where Fans of Danica join together to learn more and show support for their favorite driver! NASCAR has some of the most loyal fans in any motorsports and I think it's neat to see how passionate some fans are for drivers. Patrick is an Avid Danica Patrick fan which is becoming more and more of something you see around the NASCAR Universe. We asked him 12 questions about who he is and about some of the things in NASCAR He Likes and where changes need to happen. If you would like to be interviewed please email me at and we will email you the details. Now onto the Q and A with Patrick Paxson!
Q- Tell The NASCAR Fans About Yourself!
A-  "I like cars, dogs, Nascar, movies, guitars and ride my bike every day."
Q- Favorite Driver and Why?
A- "Danica Patrick."
"When I first saw her interviewed I realized she was special. I'm a member of a number of her fan clubs and enjoy every minute of being her fan. Danica is the greatest woman driver ever and although she was put in a Cup car early she gained the experience needed to race with the best in the world.  When she's given a great car she's passed everyone and when she's given a poor car she fights for the best finish down to the last lap."
Q- What Track Do You Consider Your Hometrack?
A- "Newton is closest" (Iowa Speedway)
Q- Favorite Track to Attend?
A- "Kansas City"
Q- When did you attend your first race? Who Won?
A- "2012 Indy race at Newton.  Marco A edged out Tony K on the last lap"
Q- Which one? Brickyard 400 or Daytona 500?
A- "Brickyard 400"

Q- What do you think needs to be changed in our sport?
A- "I would go back to the old point system and qualifying with a few changes.  I would elevate Xfinity to Cup level and have 2 leagues with them racing in 2 different cities each week."
Q- Souvenir Haulers or New Fanatics Tents?
A- "Souvenir"
Q- Greatest and Worst NASCAR Driver Ever?
A- "Jimmie Johnson is the greatest and I don't know the worst, I think they're all great."
Q- Race you haven't attended yet that you want to? (Races if more than one.)
A- "Daytona and Fontana"
Q- What are your thoughts on the new chase syestem?
A- "I think the best team doesn't always win. After the cut off two thirds of the field won't get mentioned again until the next season."

Last question is from Jake DeWitt on our last From The Grandstand Series and he asks...
Q-"Do you feel that nascar riggs finishes sometimes for the benefit of the "story" or sport?"
A- "No I honestly feel they try their best to be fair. It doesn't seem that way at times but I don't think their mistakes are intentional."

Now ask a question for the Next Fan!
Q- "Do you like having Cup drivers race Xfinity every week?"
Now answer that question for yourself!
A- "I find it much more enjoyable to see the Xfinity drivers fight it out between themselves."

Rick Ware Racing Promoting

In Atlanta on Saturday during the Xfinity Series Race you may have seen a certain paint scheme we have seen on cars with drivers ranging from Michael McDowell to Blake Koch. Cody Shane Ware was behind the wheel of the #15 presented by X-Aviation Chevrolet Camaro on Saturday in the Heads Up Georgia 250. Dell Hamilton has been in NASCAR for many years including being half an owner of Hamilton Means Racing. Dell is one of the founders of the Support Millitary Organization based out of Chattanooga Tennessee. Now with a new campaign to broaden the horizon Dell makes his return to NASCAR with Rick Ware Racing. The car you see to the right will be seen on track at many of the upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series Races and their is a meaning behind it. Everyone of these heroes who have served for our country needs a hero. These Heroes need a friend or a person who can be there for them whenever they need someone to talk to or maybe they just need a buddy to help welcome them back to the United States. A person who will go fishing with them or take them to a NASCAR Race to help them feel more at home. You can help by pledging your help to BeHero2Hero. When it comes to the United States of America we have the Greatest Military in any place on earth. We the people of the United States of America need to help these members of the military feel more at home. We the people need to be there for them. You can help by pledging at We want to send a Shout Out to Rick Ware Racing for helping promote this great organization!

Jimmie Johnson Ties Dale Earnhardt Sr. on Wins List with Win at Atlanta

Jimmie Johnson wins his 76th race at Atlanta tying him with Dale Earnhardt Sr. on the All time winner list. Johnson won Today's race in Overtime after a large wreck on the backstretch involving notably Aric Almirola and David Ragan. Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s son Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished second to Johnson. Kyle and Kurt Busch finish 3rd and 4th. Carl Edwards rounded out the Top 5. In a race filled with a calm begining and a wild ending Johnson from Kevin Harvick on the Last Lap (2nd to last if you ask some fans.) Another win for Johnson his 5th.

NASCAR News Source Driver of The Week

Kyle Busch failed Post Qualifying Inspection on Friday Night which caused him to lose his pole starting position. Kyle had to start at the rear of the field today and he still managed a 3rd place finish! Kyle Busch is on the verge of victory very soon in my opinion. He returns home to Vegas next weekend maybe he can pull the Jackpot and win at Home! We would like to congratulate Kyle Busch on becoming the newest NASCAR News Source Driver of The Week! Congrats on your W yesterday too!

Next Weekends Race

Next Weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Vegas for the Kobalt 400! This begins the West Coast Swing. The driver who led the most laps today in Atlanta is the defending winner of the last 2 races and that guy's name is Kevin Harvick. This is where buisness picks up and I can see drivers doing things they normally would not do to make the Chase and get a win that way the clock doesn't tick anymore for them.

John Hunter Nemechek Becomes Youngest Atlanta Winner

John Hunter Nemechek defeated not only Cameron Hayley but he also defeated Kyle Busch in the Record Book. At 18 years, 8 months and 16 days, Nemechek becomes the youngest NASCAR national series winner at Atlanta Motor Speedway beating the previous record held by Kyle Busch. Cameron Hayley, Timothy Peters, Daniel Hemric, and Grant Enfinger rounded out the Top 5. Parker Kligerman currently leads the point standings by 1 point over Daniel Hemric. The victory yesterday was his second victory in 32 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races. He won at Chicagoland last season.

NASCAR News Source Driver of the Week

Winning your second victory in your career is an impressive feat for anyone but when you only have a few logos on the truck with little to no sponsorship you see the hard work that Joe and his NEMCO Motorsports team puts in week in and week out. That's what makes these wins extra emotional and gives the fan a look at how hard work pays off especially in the Truck Series. By winning yesterday's race Front Row John becomes the newest NASCAR News Source Driver of The Week! We congratulate John on the victory!

Next Race

The trucks will take a few weeks off to relax and get ready for Martinsville in April. No truck racing in March but you will have both Xfinity and Cup to enjoy! Martinsville is shaping up to be one heck of a race. 2 teams at the moment will be making an attempt at a Debut at Martinsville (New Age Motorsports and Faith Motorsports) The fields have been rather large and with it looking to continue I would be nervous if I was those teams.

Kyle Busch Dominates in First Atlanta Xfintiy Win!

In 311 Races it may surprise you that Kyle Busch has never won at Atlanta in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Atlanta, A track he has almost dominated in other series, finally was marked off the list yesterday when Kyle won the Heads Up Georgia 250 in his 312th NASCAR Xfinity Series Race.
In the last few Laps Kyle held off a hard charging Kyle Larson to win his 77th NASCAR Xfinity Series Race and his first at Atlanta. Kyle Larson, Erik Jones, Paul Menard, and Ty Dillon rounded out the top 5 at Atlanta. Kyle started from the pole and lead 119 of the 163 laps.

NASCAR News Source Driver of The Week

Ryan Sieg had an entertaining Saturday in Atlanta and endured a meet and greet with a Georgia State Trooper on his way to the track. Then to show up, jump in his #39 car and qualify it in the 8th place. Then in the Race Ryan Sieg stayed up in the Top 20 and landed the RSS Racing Chevrolet Camaro in the 16th place! For the impressive showing we congratulate Ryan Sieg on becoming the newest Driver of the Week in the Xfinity Series.

Next Race

After a rather Quick Pick at Atlanta the NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Sin City for the BoydGaming 300. It will certainly be a roll of the dice for some Xfinity Series regulars to see if they can be the first driver to score the big Jackpot and lock themselves into the Chase, 2 races in and we still have no driver locked into the chase. Will we see our first next weekend in Las Vegas? Tune in to find out who has the Full House in Vegas!

One Brothers Technical Error Leads to Other Brother Winning Pole

When it comes to the Busch brothers this weekend in Atlanta they were fast in Qualifying. One was legally fast while the other had a technical error on his car causing it to fail post qualifying inspection. On Friday Afternoon the first group qualifying of the season took place at a Cold and Windy Atlanta Motor Speedway. Surprising names like Bayne, Scott, and Kahne, names we haven't heard from much as of late had fast cars. The likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano had surprising starting spots toward the back. Kyle Busch had the fastest speed in the final round but his qualifying time was disallowed because the rear toe of the car was off by 0.15 degrees. He will start 39th. Since only 39 drivers were entered all drivers made Sunday's Folds Of Honor QuikTrip 500 including Josh Wise and Cole Whitt, drivers who missed the Daytona 500 just a week before.

Stewart Haas Racing to Field Ford Fusions in 2017

Unexpected news flooded numerous Social Media outlets early this morning. Stewart Haas has revealed they will be leaving Chevrolet after the 2016 Season.
Ford and Stewart-Haas Racing have entered a multi-year agreement that calls for the four-car team to race the Ford Fusion with engines prepared by Roush Yates Engines beginning with Daytona Speedweeks in February 2017. Behind the wheel will be Kevin Harvick, Danica Patrick, Kurt Busch, and Clint Bowyer replacing Tony Stewart in 2017.
“We are thrilled to be able to add a championship-level team like Stewart-Haas Racing to our Ford NASCAR program,” said Raj Nair, executive vice president and Chief Technical Officer, Ford Motor Company. “Tony Stewart and Gene Haas have the same passion for winning that we do, and bring a strong stable of drivers and personnel that fit into what we’re trying to do in the sport.”In addition to Stewart-Haas Racing, the 2017 Ford NASCAR lineup will include Team Penske, Roush Fenway Racing, Wood Brothers Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports and Front Row Motorsports. Ford’s technical partner for NASCAR race engines is Roush Yates Engines.

Stewart-Haas Racing features drivers Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Danica Patrick, and Kurt Busch in 2016. Brian Vickers and Ty Dillon are slated to fill in for Stewart while he recovers from a non-racing injury.

Stewart, Harvick, and Busch have won Sprint Cup titles and Patrick was a winner in the Verizon IndyCar Series before moving to NASCAR. Since its founding in 2009, Stewart-Haas Racing has captured 30 points-paying wins, 26 poles, and two drivers’ championships.(Koelle,2016)
